Celtic Handfasting Wedding Ceremony on the top of the Cliffs Of Moher Ireland – N&J – MrsRedhead Photography
We met on a dating app called coffee meets bagel. Our first date was at Stone Brewery where Jason expected to have a quick drink and Nicolle ordered dinner.
When did you know it was for life?
Nicolle: It was a look he would give me. Soon after we officially started dating I would catch him looking at me in a way that I do not know how to describe, but it gave me the most intense butterflies.I knew that no one else in the world could give me that look or could make me feel those butterflies and I just knew, he was different, he had my heart and he was the one.
Jason: On our third date, it was my turn to wow her with a home cooked meal to show off my skills. With Nicolle having celiac, I had a challenge as a majority of my dishes contained some sort of wheat. I chose bibimbap, a Korean dish that could be altered to be gluten free without a lot of effort. What I didn’t account for was how nervous I would be. Suffice to say, I made a horrible meal that was barely edible, but Nicolle went through it like a champ. I knew this was the girl for me as I don’t think I could mess something up that bad again and she handled it amazingly. Everything after that was only convinced me more that it was for life.
The proposal, when was it and what happened?
It was at Disneyland California Adventure. Jason created a treasure hunt using a website that he had created for me for my birthday. He told me what to wear and he sent me all over the parks before proposing in front of the waterfall behind the river rafting ride.
How did the day go?
It was eventful. Nicolle lost her voice and squeaked through the whole day. The night before the maid of honor burned a hole in Nicolle’s veil and the maid of honor freaked out until she could get it fixed. The owner of the bed and breakfast we were staying at knew someone who just made her own daughter’s wedding dress and was able to fix the veil with no problem. Lastly, it rained all morning and all afternoon and we thought we were going to have to change the venue but we decided we had come all this way and we were going to get married on cliffs even if the rain was going to drench us. Well, the rain stopped right when we got there for the ceremony and held right until we left for the reception.
She was our first choice when we were given options from the wedding planner. At first we thought that she was unavailable because we tried to book through her website, but then we thought we would just have Annie reach out to her and she ended up being able to capture our special day. She was unbelievable, and she took the most breath taking photos that everyone just ooohhs and awwwws over when they see them!
What was the highlight of your day? For both the bride and groom!
Nicolle: The breath taking view of both my handsome husband and the unbelievable Cliffs of Moher. Also, the handfasting part of the ceremony. It was so unique and beautiful. I know we never would have experienced that if we hadn’t married in Ireland.
Jason: Seeing my beautiful wife approach me on the edge of the cliffs. The only thing more beautiful than the scenery was her and that moment surpassed everything I had ever dreamed of. Having the perfect weather and our family around us was just the cherry on top for the moment.
What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
If you’re going destination, get in touch with Annie and have her use all the same vendors/people. Everyone was unbelievably amazing. It truly was the most magical day!
Planning the wedding:
Jason totally put his faith in me for this one. I had been lucky enough to have travelled to Ireland way before we had met, and the country and especially the cliffs left a lasting impression on me. I knew if I ever got married it would just be the most magical location. As soon as he proposed we started talking about it and I found Annie of Aislinn Events online and loved her website. Once we skyped with her and settled a date, we were off!
The dress: It came from a bridal salon called Mon Amie in Costa Mesa, CA. We knew we were going to have a full Catholic wedding at home in lieu of the destination in Ireland and I had intended to wear one dress for both occasions but my mom talked me out of it and I am so happy she did. The dress I bought first really wouldn’t serve well as a destination wedding dress (too poofy and too heavy to travel with). So my mom and I went back by ourselves with no idea what we were looking for. The amazing stylist brought in dresses that did not meet the mark until she remembered one that was in the back room because it was discontinued and they only had one size. You guessed it, it was just my size and fit like a glove, it was made for this wedding.
